Institute of Somali Advocacy and Policy Organization (ISAP Organization)
About Us
Our Mission
The Institute of Somali Advocacy and Policy Organization (ISAP Organization) is dedicated to strengthening and nurturing the relationship between the United States and Somalia. We aim to foster mutual understanding, advocate for beneficial policies, and support initiatives that promote peace, stability, and prosperity for the Somali people. Our focus is on building a future where both nations can thrive together.
Who We Are
The ISAP Organization is a non-partisan organization committed to advocating for policies that benefit the U.S.-Somalia relationship. Our members include policymakers, community leaders, and citizens dedicated to promoting a deeper understanding and stronger ties between the two nations.
What We Do
We engage in advocacy, education, and policy development to support and enhance the relationship between the United States and Somalia. Our work includes:
- Advocacy: Influencing policymakers to support initiatives that strengthen U.S.-Somalia relations.
- Education: Providing resources and programs to increase awareness and understanding of Somali culture and issues.
- Policy Development: Collaborating with experts to train Somali policymakers, legislators, and elected officials in creating solutions for economic development, security, and resource sharing that benefit both nations.
Our Policy Priorities
Security and Stability
Collaborative Security Efforts
We advocate for collaborative security measures to combat terrorism and ensure regional stability. By working together, the United States and Somalia can create a safer environment that fosters economic growth and development. Our efforts include:
- Developing Policies for Stronger Relationships: We work with the U.S. government to develop and implement policies that strengthen the U.S.-Somalia security relationship.
- Building Somali Security Apparatus: Our initiatives focus on building the capacity of the Somali security apparatus, training and empowering Somali security forces to become effective partners with the U.S. government.
- Preventing Piracy and Terrorism: We support joint efforts to prevent piracy and terrorism, ensuring regional stability and safety. By addressing these security challenges, we help create a conducive environment for economic and social development.
Economic Development
Bilateral Trade Agreements
We promote policies that enhance trade relations between the United States and Somalia. By encouraging bilateral trade agreements, we aim to create economic opportunities that benefit businesses and communities in both countries.
Investment in Infrastructure
Our advocacy supports U.S. investment in Somali infrastructure projects, including transportation, telecommunications, and energy. Improved infrastructure will not only boost Somalia’s economy but also create opportunities for American companies and investors.
Exploiting Untapped Natural Resources
Somalia is home to vast untapped natural resources, including oil and gas reserves both onshore and offshore, rich fishing grounds, and precious metals such as uranium. By promoting policies that encourage American companies to invest in these sectors, we aim to:
- Boost Somalia’s Economy: Developing these resources can significantly enhance Somalia’s economic prospects, providing jobs and revenue that can be reinvested in the country’s development.
- Create Opportunities for American Companies: U.S. companies can benefit from access to these abundant resources, driving profits and innovation in extraction technologies.
- Foster Mutual Prosperity: Joint ventures and resource-sharing agreements ensure that both Somali and American people benefit from the wealth generated. This win-win approach promotes sustainable economic growth and strengthens the ties between our nations.
Governance and Policy Development
Training for Policymakers
We support initiatives that provide training and development for Somali policymakers, legislators, and elected officials. Effective governance is crucial for Somalia’s progress, and enhanced capabilities in policy-making will lead to better outcomes for both nations.
Policy Exchange Programs
We advocate for policy exchange programs that allow U.S. and Somali officials to share best practices and collaborate on solutions to common challenges. These programs help build stronger institutional ties and improve governance in Somalia.
Support for the Somali Diaspora
Immigration Reform
We advocate for immigration policies that support Somali immigrants and refugees in the United States. By ensuring fair and humane treatment, we help Somali-Americans contribute to and thrive in their new communities.
Community Development
Our policies support initiatives that promote the social and economic well-being of Somali-Americans. This includes access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
